Clinical Supervision

Hi there,

I’m Allison, I am a Board-approved MFT supervisor in Minnesota and a certified Person-Centered Thinking trainer and planner. I am the owner of Marigold Therapy and I am proud to offer supervision to people who have a passion for this work. I support up-and-coming MFTs, REATs, and other mental health professionals by providing guidance in navigating the clinical, legal, ethical, and business complexities of this profession.

As your clinical supervisor I can provide you with a safe and comfortable space for approaching clinical challenges and developing creative solutions. I can be a guide for you as you work your way through graduation, clinical hours, licensure tests and post graduation experiences.

As an Expressive Arts Therapist, I also offer various opportunities for supervisees to engage in expressive art based activities such as, music, movement, and creative writing. These methods can often empower you to explore ideas and feelings that may be hiding under the surface or identify a therapeutic blindspot.

As the former senior manager of a Home and Community Based (HCBS) agency I offer 20+ years of experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds, family structures, and abilities with expertise in caregiver stress, systems trauma, learning and developmental disabilities, and first responders.

I have provided leadership and/or clinical supervision for teams, work groups, committees, departments and agency employees for the past 20 years. I’ve lead policy and culture change from a medical model of providing services to a humanistic person-centred approach. I have also volunteered at the Walk-In Counseling Center.

  • “Allison has contributed greatly to my growth as not only a practitioner, but simply as a human being. Her ability to always make you feel comfortable and competent is something I didn’t realize I was missing until I started working with her. Furthermore, her knowledge and expertise doesn’t end with simply “knowing”- her ability to apply her expertise with varying situations and people and make a lasting difference in people's lives is something I aspire to do.”

Why use expressive creative art techniques in supervision?

Expressive creative arts techniques in supervision are designed to help supervisees develop meaning, increase learning, and enhance supervision (Deaver & Shiflett, 2011). Expressive arts represent a supervision modality that uses creative methods to facilitate deeper underlying processes. Expressive arts does not involve critique, critical thinking or problem-solving, it is a way to connect with unconscious, implicit experiences, or feelings that someone might otherwise struggle to reach. Therefore, expressive arts can be a positive method of promoting supervisee development with less fear and resistance (Gass & Gillis, 2010; Kees & Leech, 2002; Purswell & Stulmaker, 2015; Rubin & Gil, 2008).
